⭐️ ABOUT
Gizz Van Buskirk (pronounced ˈgiz van bus-kerk) is the electronic music recording project of Mike Damrath, from Ashland, Virginia, USA.
Originally raised in northern New Jersey and then in the mountains of upstate New York. He was influenced by a steady diet of British first and new wave rock, with heaping helpings of The Beatles, Queen, Gary Numan, John Foxx, Jean-Michel Jarre, Roland Orzabal, and Thomas Dolby. Mike played drums and sax for a number of bands over the years including Fail East, Fevered Train, and the Screaming Attack Shrimp before striking out on his own under the name Gizz Van Buskirk.
⭐️ CAN! CONNECTION
Currently, Gizz is working on more music while also producing for a number of local music artists in his home studio. I came to the CAN project out of a thirst to be a part of a larger music producing community of like-minded creatives like me. I am a somewhat versatile musician, playing drums, sax, guitar, keys and I sing a bit.
I have been making music for 50 years. I am well-versed, albeit "mostly" self-taught, in music theory, sound, music and video production. I am a software expert (I was a professional software developer for 40 years), and very knowledgeable in computer hardware (went to school for and worked in electronics, computer repair, networking and construction).
The bottom line is that I feel like I have a lot to offer my fellow creatives just with my legacy knowledge alone.
On top of that, I yearn to be inspired and learn from people who know a lot more about music and music production than I do.
